Chestnut's Medical Expenses
You may have heard about the Golden on the Roof that was rescued in Old Town a few weeks ago. Meet Chestnut! He's a sweet boy who has so much love to give. His foster said he was very patient with her daughter while he spent time with them, and he does well with other animals. When he came to us, he was extremely malnourished and we noticed an increase in urine outtake, so we brought him to the vet to get a better understanding of what was going on for him.
This poor guy has a lot of medical issues going on! Chestnut was recently diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus which is pretty rare in dogs and is characterized by excessive thirst/drinking and the production of enormous volumes of extremely dilute urine. This is a life-long diagnosis that will need to be treated daily with DDAVP treatment. He was also diagnosed with Heartworm, which will be an extensive and long treatment, however we are doing everything in our power to help this handsome guy through his treatment to give him the best life possible. On top of both those diagnoses, he is also mildly anemic.
All of this is going to be an extremely lengthy and financially stressful treatment, but we are committed to his recovery. We are asking for support from our community to help relieve some of the financial stress this will put on our small shelter. We are extremely lucky and grateful to have such a supportive community and we will continue to update everyone on Chestnut's progress as his treatment starts!
